When I was shooting this ceremony I was crying. Not noticeably, I hope. But enough that I couldn’t see through my camera’s viewfinder as well as I would’ve liked.
The first thing you’ll notice if you’ve been following my work for a while is that I’ve published this amazing wedding before.
Why again?
‘Cause that was a long-ish time ago and I feel like it. It’s also a chance to give you a different take on things. I chose some photos that might not have been in the first collection and some that you have seen before.
This beautiful wedding took place not long after Governor Mark Dayton signed Minnesota’s same-sex marriage bill in 2013. Minnesota may be a little quirky and cold, but hot damn, it is often on the leading edge of positive change.
Let me go back to the crying thing.
First, my ex and I were married in a similar ceremony in a similar room in that exact courthouse. It was small, intimate, and perfect. Of course there was some emotion walking in.
Second, to be a wedding photographer and to FINALLY be able to photograph ALL couples who were in love, period, was overwhelmingly beautiful. I felt proud of the voters & legislators in our state. I felt excited to be able to share my skills with couples celebrating their love.
But mostly, witnessing anybody experience something they’ve been waiting for their whole lives will bring a tear to a glass eye (thanks, Paul, for that one). Want to talk about the highest, lightest, happiest energy? It’s this, hands down.
So, even though I’ve published this one before, it makes me happy. So I’m doing it again.
Love is love y’all,
